Nouvelle Planète has been active in Vietnam since 1989 when the helping of orphanages, centres to cure leprosy and other projects for people in the Central Highlands began. Willy Randin, the founder of Nouvelle Planète, had worked in this region from 1968 to 1969 and was a pioneere in helping in this destitute region that was badly affected by the war with the United States of America. The organization was among the first to obtain an authorization to work. Later, projects in the Mekong Delta and along the coast have also been supported with the objective to improve the lives of the rural population where they have not benefited from the relative economic growth of recent years.

Nouvelle Planète Vietnam (NPV) is the team that coordinates all activities undertaken in the country and organizes them autonomously. NPV monitors all projects in collaboration with the local partners in each area of intervention. The team is composed of two people that are based in Ho Chi Minh City, the economic hub of Vietnam.

Operational Strategy
All projects have to fit into the framework of the 3-year Strategic Plan and must be approved by the authorities. Aiming at the highest relevance possible of the projects, the needs of the population of each of the most marginalized villages of a district are assessed in a survey. These discussions with the villagers allow NPV to detect the needs and identify the best method of development. There are currently four operational zones:

  • Mekong Delta: Trà Vinh and Hậu Giang provinces
  • Central Highlands: Kon Tum province

Nouvelle Planète supports projects mainly in the field of education, environment, renewable energies, mobility and support of ethnic minorities.
