The camps allow participants to:
- Meet local people in a privileged way and to share their lifestyle,
- Witness the positive effects of the initiatives and efforts made by the locals to develop their region and protect the environment,
- Contribute hand in hand to a project that can improve the living conditions of the local population,
- Open their mind and overcome their fear of the other and their prejudices by emphasizing solidarity,
- Spend useful holidays
Tourism? Humanitarian work ? Development aid ?
The camps of Nouvelle Planète are:
- Not organized and comfortable journeys using the criteria of travel agencies. For example: the program is established, but changes and unexpected events are possible. The living conditions (food, housing and convenience) are similar to the conditions of the local population.
- Not humanitarian work. The participants are not expected as saviours and are not helping people respond to an emergency situation.
The camp experience is linked to development aid and solidarity through exchanges between North and South. The participants will probably receive and learn more than they might give.
