Organisation of camps

E-mail Print

The groups are formed in early November during an information and camp creation meeting. Upcoming camp meetings.

Nouvelle Planète organizes several camps to which you can register. Based on your interest s and availability, you can choose the camp you would like to participate in. It is necessary to be over 17 years of age the year at the time of departure. A group is generally composed of 10 to 18 participants.

A camp experience breaks down in 2 phases: First, the preparation phase which lasts around 8 months and takes place in Switzerland. Secondly, the 3-weeks stay in the host country.

Preparation in Switzerland

This period is important for participants to prepare for the change of scene provoked by such a trip. From the creation of the group to departure day (in July or August), participants have 3 objectives:

  • Create a friendly group atmosphere, learn about the other members and mobilize for a common goal.
  • Gather information about the host country, the host partner, the problems raised by a development or environmental project, and the administrative and health care.
  • Organize group actions in order to raise funds. Fundraising covers the cost of living on site for your group and the group of local participants. The money also funds the project partly or fully.

IIn order to accomplish these objectives, the participants meet regularly. They participate in monthly group meetings. These meetings are scheduled by the group and take place in a "central" place in Switzerland depending on where the participants come.
The regular participation of all group members to such activities (meetings, fundraising actions, information day, etc) is essential.
Nouvelle Planète organizes all phase of the camp: the preparation period, the travel to the host country, the return and feedback period. Throughout the preparation period, Nouvelle Planète supervises the groups (Supervision of camps)

Stay in the host country

The group is associated to a country and more particularly to one aid project. The project was initiated by a local partner of Nouvelle Planète. For the duration of the camp, local inhabitants welcome the group to their home.
On site, a local youth group is formed. Thus, two groups work together on the site. The days are punctuated by:

  • Activities on the project. These are mostly small works like carrying bricks, painting, planting trees, etc. The work on site remains symbolic and represents a good way to share memorable experiences with locals.
  • Activities of discovery and exchange. These are mostly group activities and outings in the surrounding areas (work in the fields, visits of families, etc) and possibly in another region of the country.
in another region of the country.

The program of the stay is planned by the coordinator of Nouvelle Planète and the local partner. During the stay, they can be contacted 24h a day. Read Supervision of the camps.
